Getting a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Economics is the right choice if you are interested in economic and socio-political issues. This includes understanding operational interrelationships at the level of individual companies, but also the interplay of complex processes in modern economies. You should also enjoy analytical thinking, working independently and have a good knowledge of mathematics and English.
During the course of your studies, you will initially acquire fundamental knowledge in both business administration and economics, thereby enabling you to gain a deeper understanding of your personal strengths and interests. In the later part of your studies, you will specialize by choosing a competence profile. The structure of the degree program
The Bachelor's degree course is designed for six semesters. During these six semesters, you will earn a total of 180 credit points. The course can be divided into two phases. In the first three and a half semesters, you will learn the basics of business administration and economics as part of the foundation course.
In the field of business administration, this includes courses on marketing, management, production management, accounting and finance. The introduction to important economic theory concepts and courses on microeconomics and macroeconomics cover the economics part of the course. These basics are supplemented by related subjects such as business informatics, the basics of econometrics, mathematics and statistics.
After getting to know different areas of economics in the first semesters, you can specialize in the second part based on your interests and career goals by choosing either a competence profile or a study field.

Each profile combines different topics and career fields so that students can optimally prepare for their professional future. You can choose from six skills profiles:
Study Field
Here you can choose a specialization in business administration, economics or a mixture of both. You then choose courses mainly from the corresponding field of study. These are supplemented by courses on academic writing and methodology, seminars and project seminars as well as civil law, followed by the bachelor thesis.
In addition to the courses offered in the competence profile or study field, key competencies in the areas of self-management, time management and knowledge transfer are trained. In order to meet the requirements for an internationally recognized degree, proof of English language skills is also mandatory.

Application, enrollment and start of studies
You can start your Bachelor's degree in the winter semester. The application deadline is July 15 each year. In some cases, there is also an extended application deadline, such as most recently for the winter semester 2023/24. The degree course is admission-restricted.
Even before you start your first lecture, our department will support you with a preliminary mathematics course in which you can refresh your knowledge and prepare yourself well for the start of your studies. This is followed by a one-week orientation phase for first-year students. Accompanied by students from higher semesters, you will get to know the campus and important university facilities and can make your first contacts with fellow students and lecturers.

The Master's program
Would you like to prepare yourself for demanding management tasks? Would you like to specialize and deepen your knowledge in a particular field? Or are you interested in a career in science? There are many good reasons for a Master's degree. With the Master's degree in Business Administration and Economics at TU Dortmund University, you can choose between five study profiles and design your studies tailored to your needs.
